The Beauty Therapy advanced apprenticeship is available for learners aged from 16+ who are employed in the beauty industry and who have previously completed the level 2 qualification. College attendance is on a day-release basis and assessment will take place both at college and in the workplace. Learners are required to build a portfolio of evidence to prove their skills, understanding and knowledge of the subject. Training is provided through salon sessions, and classroom teaching. General information

Course content
In-house training will take place and regular assessments and reviews will occur in the workplace. Learners will work towards an NVQ level 3 in Beauty Therapy plus level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English. Course units include:
- Contribute to promotional activities
- Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
- Provide body massage treatments
- Provide facial electrical treatments
- Provide body electrical treatments
- Provide electrical epilation treatments
- Provide electrical epilation treatments
- Provide hot stone massage
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English
Teaching and assessment
Apprenticeship students are assessed by a combination of the following:
- Beauty Therapy practical assessments – at college and within the workplace
- Online testing – for theoretical knowledge
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English
In order to succeessfully complete the course, students will be required to achieve a competent pass grade in all practical assessments and online tests.
Classroom-based sessions are for the delivery of Anatomy and Physiology and the essential knowledge underpinning all practical units. Salon-based sessions involve training and practice on other students within the group, moving onto clients working within a realistic commercial salon environment for practical assessments.
In additional Apprenticeship students will also attend mandatory Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English classes.
Apprenticeship students will have regular target setting reviews and practical assessment within the workplace.
Entry requirements
Learners wishing to start an advanced apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy must have already completed a level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification and be employed in the Beauty industry for a minimum of 30 hours per week, one day of which they will attend College, currently Mondays.All our Beauty Therapy applicants attend a presentation and complete a diagnostic test in literacy & numeracy to ensure they are placed on the right level. Applicants will also attend an interview with a beauty therapy tutor to determine suitability for the course.
