Teaching and assessment

All hairdressing programmes are assessed through a combination of the following: observation of practical work on clients for all units, project, assignment and case studies. On-line tests and oral questioning, work place assessment and building a 'portfolio of evidence' to be submitted for assessment on completion of the programme, or an individual unit, as negotiated with your tutor.

Lessons will be a combination of taught theory lessons and practical lessons. The practical lessons will take place in fully equipped salons where the students will have demonstrations and the opportunity to develop their hairdressing skills in the required units. When skills are at the required standard, students will be assessed on clients. The theory classes prepare the students for the tests and assignments they have to complete as part of the syllabus. Students will participate in group activities and individual study tasks.

Your timetable will incorporate a study day where you are required to work independently on completing study guides, research tasks and assignments in your own time. On full time courses, students are required to attend work experience one day a week for the duration of the course.

Entry requirements

Entry is by interview and recommendation from your tutor and a level 2 qualification in Hairdressing, with at least three Merits. You will also require a Functional Skills qualification in English and Maths at Level 1 and evidence of recent salon work experience.
