General information
This course is suitable for applicants who are planning a career in Health & Social Care but who have little or no previous experience working in this sector. Over the 18-24 month period of the course you will spend time in college as well as gaining practical experience in the workplace. In the workplace you will work alongside experienced staff to gain skills of care. Your employer pays you a small salary. You will attend college on a day-release basis and study towards the Health & Social Care framework.

Learners will work towards the Health & Social Care framework consisting of:
- Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care
- Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Functional Skills in English and Maths
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities Award
Teaching and assessment
Training is provided through workshop sessions, tutorials and classroom teaching.
Learners are required to build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their skills, understanding and knowledge of the subject. The college workshops support the skills practiced in the place of work and it is expected that the workplace mentor and college tutor together help the learner to develop as a care practitioner.
Entry requirements
You must be in paid employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week and have a written contract of employment to confirm this. You must be able to attend College one day a week and have CRB clearance. Selection is by Interview and assessment of suitability to study at Level 2.
