The aim of this module is to raise awareness and familiarise students with the principles and applications of quality management. Outcome 1 examines the basic principles of Total Quality Management (TQM), Outcome 2 is intended to develop an understanding of the key factors which underpin Quality Assurance (QA) systems and Outcome 3 introduces the application of Quality Control (OC) techniques.

What will I study?
Investigate Total Quality Management (TQM)
- Identify the basic principles of TQM in relation to a specific application
- Investigate an application of TOM techniques to ensure quality awareness throughout an organisation.
Examine the key factors of Quality Assurance (QA) systems
- Identify the key factors necessary for the implementation of a QA system within a given process
- Interpret a given internal and external quality audit for control purposes
- Investigate factors affecting costing.
Apply Quality Control (QC) techniques
- Investigate statistical quality control techniques
- Describe process capability
- Use software packages for data collection and analysis
Assessment Outcomes: At the end of these modules the student should be able to demonstrate a practical capacity to carry out the tasks listed to a commercially acceptable standard, applying principles correctly in context but may not yet have developed a deep understanding of the theoretical underpinning of the subject. Optional assessments are included.
How will the course be delivered?
The course runs for a maximum of 1 week – 9am until 7pm.
Course Entry RequirementsIt is essential that all attendees:
- Are competent with maths (No lower than GCSE Grade C)
- Have a good level of written and spoken English
- Have some understanding/experience of underlying concepts of engineering
The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:
- More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
- 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
- 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
- 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
- Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost
All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.
