Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone with an interest in the subject who wishes to then have the option to move onto our CISCO CCNA course.

What will I study?

You will learn how to install and configure computer operating systems and PC hardware. A final exam is issued by CISCO, were you will be awarded an IT Essentials certificate. There is the option of taking the CompTIA A+ exams, which is an internationally recognised Technicians Certificate, which is external to the College and not part of the course.

Prerequisites: A good working knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems. You will also need to be confident with maths and English. The course is based around an online curriculum which can be studied in college and anywhere with internet connectivity.

There are 16 modules covering hardware and software skills and knowledge. The course also requires practical skills and is assessed at the end of the course. You will be assessed by online theory exams for each module and 2 final exams.

Those students taking the blended learning route would be expected to attend college 8 times over the 18 weeks. Study would be via the online materials with online exams for each of the modules to assess understanding, whilst not in College.

When in college students will have the opportunity to work on labs using hardware and software to learn the practical skills necessary, you would be expected to use those practical skills whenever possible outside of College to perfect your skills. IT Essentials exam and practical final would be completed in College on the last date of the course.

Course Entry Requirements

A good working knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems. You will also need to be confident with maths and English.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

If the student undertakes the optional exams successfully then an IT Essentials Certificate will be awarded. Alternatively a Blackburn College Certificate of Attendance will be awarded.
