The CIH Awarding Body
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is an awarding body for national qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4. The qualifications are awarded by CIH and cover the work of those people who are employed or are active in housing management in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors. Part of the Institute’s mission is to identify training and education needs for the housing sector and to develop qualifications that can be accessed by a range of different modes of delivery: through colleges, universities, distance learning and in partnership with employers. The CIH believes that qualified staff will improve service delivery to tenants, residents, service users and employers and increase their value to their organisation.

What will I study?

Learners will study a number of core modules which will investigate issues relevant to housing officers and those who work for housing organisations. These will also be of interest to tenants groups.

The course is split into nine different modules of which three are cores, three are devoted to a pathway and another three are chosen by the employer/ interest groups. The aim is to develop critical skills for practice and to offer learners the opportunity for further study.

Core Modules will include:
Delivery of Affordable Housing Services
Equality and Diversity for Housing
Professional Practice Skills for Housing

Optional Modules can include:
Repairs and Maintenance in a Housing Organisation
Dealing with Anti Social Behaviour
Involving Housing Service Users

How will the course be delivered?

The course will be assessed through a combination of coursework, presentations and portfolio building.

Course Entry Criteria

Applicants with relevant work experience or via employer recommendation are invited onto the course.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What can I do next?

Most candidates will already be in employment, however the course will assist in career development by enabling candidates to identify opportunities for improvement and many have used this qualification successfully to enhance their promotion prospects and/or progress to further study.

How much does it cost?

This course is delivered as a tailored programme, on-site and at our University Centre. Course fees will be dependent on delivery venue, numbers and requirements.
