Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at people who work in Early Years settings, play work and children’s centres.

What will I study?

The revised, simpler framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was published on 27 March 2012, for implementation from September 2012.

“This is an integral part of the Government’s wider vision for families in the foundation years. It demonstrates a commitment to freeing professionals from bureaucracy to focus on supporting children. Together with a more flexible, free early education entitlement and new streamlined inspection arrangements, this is a step towards a lighter touch regulatory regime.” DfES (2012)

At Blackburn College we are looking to implement training to help your setting adapt to the new EYFS framework. This tailor made qualification is taken from two units in the Level 3 QCF Diploma and will be assessed in the workplace and through a series of small workshops. The course is aimed at people who work in Early Years settings, play work and children’s centres.

The course will cover the following units:

• What is development and the areas
• How development is holistic
• Observation and assessment of children and factors to consider
• Curriculum planning
• Planning cycle
• Involving children in their own planning
• Partnership with parents
• Transitions
• Early Years Foundation Stage

How will the course be delivered?

Through college based workshops as well as independent study.

Course Entry Criteria

The course is aimed at people who work in Early Years settings, play work and childrens centres.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

• More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
• 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
• 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
• 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
• Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

On successful completion delegates will achieve the units CYP Core 3.2 Promote child and young person development and EYMP 2 Promote learning and development in the early years.
