Description
A nationally recognised apprenticeship in hairdressing covering all hair types in the areas of shampooing and treatments, cutting, using basic techniques in colouring and bleaching, health and safety, promoting products and services.
You will complete Maths and English during your attendance at College.
Course content
- Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health & safety
- Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo and condition and treat the hair & scalp
- Change hair colour
- Style and finish hair
- Set and dress hair
- Cut hair using basic techniques
- Promote additional services or products to customers

Entry Requirements
Two GCSEs at grade D or above or NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing plus a satisfactory interview (excellent reference and minimum 85% attendance).
Delivery & Assessment methods
Assessment is on-going throughout the length of the course taking the form of practical observations (both in work and whilst at College), research tasks and online multiple choice knowledge tests. Samples of work are internally verified (IV) on a regular basis and are also externally verified (EV) by an assessor from the awarding body. Notice of external verifiers visits will be given and, if necessary, you may be required to attend a meeting with the EV which could be outside your normal college attendance hours.
