Description

This is a computer science course and includes a major software engineering/programming component using languages such as Visual Basic NET/C#.NET. The course is designed to prepare students for a career as a specialist in areas such software engineering, programming or systems analysis.

Course content

Students will study two units in year 1 and two units in year 2.

Assessment is through a combination of external examination and internal assessment. At AS Level, students will sit a formal written examination and also complete a programming project. At A2 students will sit a formal written examination and complete a programming project which solves a chosen problem. Examinations take place in January and June. Students must pass at AS Level to progress onto A2.

Progression

The qualification is normally studied alongside other A Levels and successful completion will help gain entry to higher education or employment.
