Entry RequirementsIt is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working towards Level 2. You will also need to have achieved 5 GCSEs at grades A-C, including English, Maths and Science.
What You Will StudyThe Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is an ideal learning programme for students who wish to pursue a career in the sports and fitness industry. Bicton College has developed professional links with Leisure East Devon (LED) and the Commando Training Centre, Royal Marines to place theoretical learning into real work situations.
The course is delivered in modules which are assessed throughout the two years. The Bicton College programme offers core subjects and specialist units which can include:
- Fitness training and programming
- Sports nutrition
- Psychology for sports performance
- Anatomy and physiology for sport
- Sports coaching
A-Level Option
From September 2012 students on this course will be able to study
for an A-Level in Human Biology. This is optional but will boost
UCAS points for those wishing to study physiotherapy for example,
where more science content may be required.
Students will also participate in sports coaching andinstructing plus access NGB qualifications in the following (optional):
- IRB Rugby Ready Coaching Award
- RFU Level 1 Coaching Award
- RFL Level 1 Coaching Award
- TAG Rugby Coaching Award
- CYQ Level 2 Gym Instructor Award
- NPLQ Lifeguarding
- ASA Swimming Teacher Awards
Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional
qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.
Students who achieve the required UCAS points can progress onto many Sports Science, Sports Coaching and Sports Management degree courses. Alternatively, at Bicton we are keen to develop employment skills and additional qualifications alongside our academic programme. Our students can gain employment in the fitness and coaching industry or perhaps facility management. This course is particularly well suited to those who might want to pursue a career in Physical Education.
