Focusing on developing your practical and theoretical skills you will be expected to carry out independent study, take part in rural-related debates and undertake work experience. This will equip you for the workplace or a higher level qualification.

Entry Requirements

It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working at Level 1. You will also need to have achieved 4 GCSEs at grades A–D, including English, Maths and Science or equivalent.

  • Ecology of trees, woods and forests
  • Conservation and improvement of British habitats
  • Principles of land-based machinery

Functional Skills
You will also gain nationally recognised functional skills qualifications (English, Maths and ICT).

What Next?

You may wish to continue training and progress to a Level 3 qualification such as the Extended Diploma in Countryside Management. Alternatively you may choose to develop your career in organisations concerned with wildlife and countryside management as a ranger, estate worker or country park warden.
