Students are required to attend for one day a week, either on a Monday or Tuesday for Year 12 and 13 students.
9.15am – 4.50pm

Course Description

The aim is to meet the needs of learners who work or wish to work in the animal care industry and to allow the students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or career progression in the animal care or veterinary nursing sector. We use naturally occurring opportunities and every week students will be rotated around the animal care unit to care, clean and feed the various animals at Bicton; including mammals, reptiles, fish and birds.

Assessment Methods

The teaching of these subjects will be a combination of both theory and practical sessions as well as independent research.

Assessment strategies will consist of written evidence, research, reports, practical assessments and presentations.

Progression

Successful learners may progress to a Higher Education programme or employment.

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma earns UCAS Tariff points which combined with A levels can gain entrance into University.
