This level 2 equivalent course will give you a broad base of knowledge and includes all the relevant health and safety requirements to become an effective practitioner within this vocational area.
You will study one unit (worth four credits). You will learn
client care and the importance of communication, the relevance of
the consultation process, how to follow health and safety practice
in the salon and learn a variety of basic plaiting. twisting and
braiding techniques. You will learn on and off the scalp
techniques.
Individual learning targets are set throughout the course and you
will receive regular feedback on your progress in meeting these
targets. Formal assessment will also take place throughout the
programme via assignments, case studies, oral questioning and
practical assessments.
You will learn by a variety of methods including discussion
activities lectures and workshops. Assignments and homework will
also be set to gain this qualification. The remaining time will be
spent within the practical working salon to practice and perform
the practical application of the plaiting/twisting techniques.
There is a strong emphasis on working and learning with others and
you will be set regular tasks to be completed in partnership with
other students on the programme. You will also need to be able to
work independently and take responsibility for you own
learning.
The qualification will be gained through unit accreditation
(four credits) towards the main full level 2 qualification. A VTCT
Certificate of unit credits will be available upon successful
completion.
You will also develop wider skills vital for success in further
study or employment including self-confidence, working with others,
taking responsibility and time management.
By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable
insight into future study or other careers available to you.
The course is open to motivated individuals who plan to pursue a career within the hairdressing industry. Your offer is subject to a short interview, full commitment to 100% attendance and a minimum of three hours home study a week (both of which are required to assure successful completion).
Upon successful completion of this course you can progress to the next QCF unit of the full level 2 qualification.
You will attend college one evening a week participating in classroom practical and salon sessions to gain hands-on experience.
