Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2

This course will enable you to become a fully operational beauty therapist. You will learn in our purpose-built salon, equipped to industry standards and you will also complete 100 hours of work experience, which contributes towards your qualification.

This is a one year intensive course designed to enable you to achieve an NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy. The course comprises the following units:
- Facial and skin care
- Cosmetic make-up
- Lash and brow treatments
- Manicure
- Waxing
- Pedicure
- Sale skills
- Health and safety standards
- Salon managerial skills

Operational experience within a salon is essential to support this intensive programme. You will also be involved in organising and taking part in several enrichment activities that are linked to producing a portfolio of your work. This course requires a large amount of self-directed study and you will also undertake a functional skill in ICT, maths or communications.

You will gain an NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy together with a functional skill in ICT, maths or communications.
You will also develop wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment, including building self confidence, working with others, taking responsibility, and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight into future study or careers open to you.

A good standard of education is required. A satisfactory college interview is necessary together with a supportive reference.
You will need to complete a work placement totallling 100 hours over the year.

On successful completion you can progress to our level 3 beauty therapy programme, to further develop your skills and qualifications, or progress directly into employment in the industry.
Career destinations include health and beauty salons, health farms, leisure centres in hotels or clubs, and cruise ships. NVQs in beauty therapy can also lead to specialist training, e.g. TV make-up, theatre work, or working for a cosmetic company. Further advanced training could include a foundation degree (e.g. beauty therapy and spa management)

Approximately 30% of your time at college is classroom-based. Learning activities include lectures, workshops and the other 70% is in practical sessions. Much of your learning is gained through practical experience in the college salons, working directly with clients and with your peers where you will be given responsibilities found in the workplace.
