Who is the course for?
Anyone interested in Elizabethan or late 16th Century England is
welcome. There is
no need to have studied History previously, or to have any special
historical skills.

Read one or more of the following books, all of which can be
obtained from libraries (which can easily order books from other
branches in the county),
or bought, often second-hand (although there is no need to buy any
books).
John Guy: The Tudors - a very short introduction, Oxford University
Press, 2000; and other books including a more detailed history of
Tudor England
Susan Brigden: New Worlds, Lost Worlds – the rule of the Tudors,
1485-1603, Penguin, 2000, is in between Guy’s two books in length
but of equal quality
Melvyn Bragg: The Adventure of English (also on DVD and as an
audio-book) is ideal if you are interested in the development of
the English language
