Maths plays a significant role in careers in medicine, engineering, economics and the social sciences. Our everyday lives encounter mathematical questions and problems, from calculating how much a 15% discount is to working out the probability of the train being late; you cannot get away from maths.

How long is the course?

Both the AS and A2 take one year each.

How will I be assessed?

Homework based on the lesson will be set on a weekly basis, together with module assessments which average six for each module.

Success rates

A2 pass rate for 2012: 89%.

The A Level in Mathematics combines well with Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry and ICT.

What does the course lead to?

The Mathematics A Level can lead to work as a climatologist, statistician, analyst, financial advisor, or games programmer.

What can I go on to study?

You can also pursue further study in these fields on business and economics degree courses. An A Level in Mathematics is highly regarded by both universities and potential employers.

You must possess five GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include mathematics at grade B.
