History AS/A Level

Description

You will tackle a wide range of British, European and world history, allowing you to understand how modern society and government has been shaped by the past. You will learn how important history is in determining modern identity, culture and lifestyle.

A2 pass rate for 2012: 100%.

Pass rates for A Level History are consistently high at the college year after year. There have also been a number of external visits to places such as the Houses of Parliament in London and the Holocaust Memorial Centre near Newark.

What will I study?

The core units will range from American involvement in Vietnam and Korea to Modern British History, Russia and Germany.

The A Level in History combines well with Business Studies, English Language, English Literature, Film Studies, Geography, Government and Politics, Law, Media Studies, Psychology and Sociology.

What does the course lead to?

A knowledge of history is vital for a career in politics, local government, law, archaeology of the media. The research skills you will develop can be transferred to a variety of different careers and job types.

What can I go on to study?

An A Level in History will offer a route into university to study at degree level. The options are wide ranging and include courses such as International Studies, Media and Communication, Journalism and Art History.

Entry requirements

You will need to possess five GCSEs at grade C or above. One needs to be a C grade or above in English language or English literature or combined English, and a minimum of a C grade in history or a humanities subject, such as geography or law.

Once we have received your application form we will invite you into college for an interview or audition where we will be able to discuss every aspect of the course you have chosen, as well as any alternatives you may be considering. You will also have the opportunity to visit the areas of the college used for your programme choice.
