Course summary

The course is designed to develop specialised sport therapy professionals who can work with a range of sport and exercise clients or groups, and co-ordinate their work effectively with other professionals, for example, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, masseuses and sports scientists.

The development of practical competence in a range of sport therapies and recuperative activities, such as fitness assessment and recovery techniques, is embedded within the programme. You will develop skills associated with the prevention, examination, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of sport-related injuries. These are supported by in-depth study of physiology, kinesiology, anatomy, psychology, nutrition, research methods, and ethical and legal issues associated with practice. You will be expected to engage in supervised clinical practice and to develop a portfolio of your professional experience.

You will learn through a range of practical and theoretical activities, and your assessment will include a mixture of reports, case studies, essays, presentations, reflective logs, practical demonstrations and examinations.

Opportunities are made available throughout the course for you to gain supplementary exercise and massage vocational qualifications, including gym instruction and first aid.
