The University Advanced Diploma (UAD) in Sexual and Reproductive Health provides health practitioners with a short programme of study at degree level, which aims to add a breadth and depth of knowledge necessary for effective practice within sexual and reproductive health. Students can select from a range of contemporary modules, including Contraception and Reproductive Sexual Health, which has a competency element, and aims to prepare practitioners for effective working in a contraceptive clinic or similar environment. Other modules include Asymptomatic Screening of STIs and HIV, Menopause Management, Cervical Cytology and PSHE Education.

Having completed the University Advanced Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Health, you could bring the 60 credits into a top-up degree in BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice or BSc (Hons) Practice Development. Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 60 credits Selection criteria

This award would be of interest to you if sexual health is a central or important part of your role, for example as a sexual health/contraceptive clinic nurse, a practice nurse, nurse practitioner or a school nurse. Equally, you may be considering a move into working in sexual health, and wish to extend your knowledge and skills.

Applicants may be interviewed by a member of the programme team; this interview may be conducted from a distance.

Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis and potential students will be offered advice on the suitability of the award and their module choice within the award, dependent on factors such evidence of prior learning, and their personal and professional development needs. Students should be able to show potential benefit from studying for the award and a commitment to attempting the assessment items.

Students must complete 60 credits from the modules listed to be awarded the University Advanced Diploma.

HPHS6002 Asymptomatic Screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV (20 credits)

HPHS6010 Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education (40 credits)

HPHG6028 Facilitating Health Behaviour Change (20 credits)

HLLG6018 Evidence Based Practice (20 credits)

HLLG6029-30 Negotiated Learning (10 credits) (The nature of the module content and assessed work will be negotiated and written into a learning contract)

HLLG6031-35 Negotiated Learning (20 credits) (The nature of the module content and assessed work will be negotiated and written into a learning contract)

HLLG6042-46 Work Based Learning (20 credits) (The nature of the work based learning and portfolio will be negotiated and written into a learning contract. You must identify an appropriate approved workplace mentor)

Course summary

The University Advanced Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Health will enable you to develop a systematic and coherent body of knowledge and critical understanding of the following:

  • The evidence, theories and policy drivers that underpin practice in sexual and reproductive health
  • The legal, professional and perspectives of sexual and reproductive health
  • Strategies for assessment, decision making and managing change in sexual and reproductive health
