Here at the University of Cumbria we have been providing continuing professional development for paramedics since 2000. The course is delivered by subject specialism team members with extensive experience in distance learning.
What can this course lead to?Having completed this DipHE Paramedic Science, you could progress onto a top-up degree programme for example BSc (Hons) Developing Paramedic Practice.
We also have a good range of stand alone modules and awards, which could be supportive of your continuing professional development, on subjects such as:
- Leadership and organisational change
- Respiratory assessment and management
- Service improvement
- Teamwork Personal effectiveness
- Pharmacology and prescribing practice
- First contact and emergency care.
This qualification will enable you to work at a more senior level. Graduates of this course have gone on to become senior, advanced and remote paramedics.

Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 120 credits Selection criteriaTo access this course you must be a qualified paramedic, registered with the Health Professionals Council or an equivalent and presently working in an emergency ambulance service or similar accident and emergency/first contact health care practice environment.
You will need to provide a statement from your current employer who must make reference to your professional competence.
Selection is via telephone interview with the course leader
* You will need access to a medical practitioner or a graduate nurse practitioner / emergency care practitioner who will facilitate your learning in practice for the module NMLB 5010 Development of Consultation and Examination Skills.
