What can this course lead to?Students may be able to progress to the MSc/PgD Advanced Practice in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy award or PgC Evidence Based Psychological Approaches (CBT) award.
Completion of the postgraduate award assists application for accreditation as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist with the British Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapists, application for employment as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist or employment within the NHS workforce as a High Intensity Worker in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Services.

Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 20 credits Selection criteriaThe module is suitable for practitioners who are involved in the delivery of health and social care/psychologically focussed interventions across a range of disciplines, roles and service areas, and who have:
- Access to adult clients presenting with depression. Summative assessment will be a CBT case study. Faculty policies on confidentiality within assessment apply to assessed work within this module
- Successfully completed the pre-requisite module HLLT7001 * Fundamentals of CBT
- Students must participate in the formative components of the assessment in order to successfully pass the module.
HLLT7003 CBT for Depression (20 credits at level 7)
Intended learning outcomesBy the end of the module you will be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced cognitive behavioural skills application with a chosen client(s) via written account to clinically and ethically justify selected interventions/change techniques
- Demonstrate complex knowledge and an advanced level of case conceptualisation with a selected client(s) experiencing Major Depression and related difficulties
- Critically evaluate the psychological theories and development of evidence base underpinning the specialist applications of CBT for depression
- Demonstrate advanced skills of inquiry, critical analysis and self-reflection on your CBT practice with a case example(s) that involves specialist applications of CBT for depression.
Functional analysis of depression; Risk Assessment; Specific applications of CBT for depression. Formulation with complex, chronic and recurring depression; Co-morbidity; Mindfulness based CBT; Manualised/Computerised CBT; Behavioural Activation; Stepped Care; Metacognition, Compassionate Mind Training; ACT; Schema Focussed CBT.
