Intended learning outcomesOn successful completion of the module you will be able to:
- Critically discuss the necessary procedures and requirements for initiating new MR scanning facilities
- Evaluate the role of leadership in an MR unit
- Appraise the likely impact of new techniques on routine imaging
- Evaluate the physical principles which influence the latest advances in MR applications
- Demonstrate the ability to protocol a range of MR examinations.

More about levels and credits
Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 20 credits Selection criteriaSelection criteria for this module are drawn from the MSc/PgD Medical Imaging MRI programme and include a degree classification of 2.2 or above. Applicants must also have experience of clinical practice which is relevant to their course of study in MRI; this is compulsory and it is the responsibility of the student to ensure this requirement is met. Where students are employed in a placement which is new to the programme the placement will be visited and audited by a member of the course team to ensure the student will have access to appropriate equipment and case load.
Modules HMSR7050 Managing a Magnetic Resonance Facility (20 credits at level 7) Course summaryIndicative module content includes: considerations for the planning, siting and installing new MR facilities; MR hardware and software advances - including the manufacturers perspective for the future; functional brain MR - approaches; spectroscopy - single and multi voxel techniques and clinical applications; leadership in the context of an MR unit, from a senior managers perspective; workshops by clinical experts in defining protocols for MR examinations; workflow management in busy MR units - discussion of clinical scenarios.
