Dancing

We have dance classes available at the Isle of Man College, Main Hall and St Ninian's Lower School (Dance Studio) in Onchan.

Social Dancing for Beginners - Tutors are Mr & Mrs Sibthorpe - Basic Standard Ballroom, Latin, Sequence and similar dancing for couples.

Social Dancing for Improvers - Tutors are Mr & Mrs Sibthorpe - Technique and extra figures for couples who can do basic Ballroom and Latin dancing.

Contemporary Dance - Tutor is Ms Mariola Duszynska - The dance is closely related to modern, ballet and jazz dance. It is also known as Dance Theatre. Basic elements: floor, suspension, speed, contraction - release, space. No previous dance experience required - all levels welcome. Soft-soled shoes required (no heels please)

Broadway Jazz - Tutor is Ms Mariola Duszynska - Typical dance for musical theatre. Will help you work on your flexibility, keep fit and gain confidence. Course for everyone who would like to learn energetic and fun dance.


What Subjects will I study?

Through active participation and repetition of the dances, students can expect to learn basic Waltz step routines, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha and Rumba, as well as Salsa Dancing. Practical demonstrations for each dance will be shown and students are encouraged to join in. The emphasis is, as always, on enjoyment. It is easier to attend the course with a friend or partner to take full advantage of the class and dances taught. However, the tutors are happy to provide individual tuition where time allows.
