Modules NMLB6152 Health Assessment (20 credits at level 6) Course summary

Indicative Module Content: Structured and comprehensive consultation skills including history taking, problem solving, therapeutic communication and advice giving. Also system specific physical examination skills including Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Ear, nose and throat, Musculoskeletal, Neurological, Abdominal and Mental health assessment.

Intended Outcomes:

At the end of this module you will be able to develop your knowledge and understanding of the complete consultation process and be able to:

  1. Demonstrate and critically evaluate the application of a structured comprehensive history taking process within a consultation;
  2. Critically evaluate the application of physical examination techniques;
  3. Critically reflect upon a range of problem solving skills in health assessment;
  4. Critically reflect upon the application of problem solving skills in a consultation with a patient;
  5. Demonstrate the application of effective communication strategies to facilitate a therapeutic relationship with the patient.
