HPHS6004 Cervical Cytology Screening: Theory and Practice (20 credits at level 6)

Intended learning outcomes

On successful completion of HPHS6004, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the female pelvic organs including cellular functioning and cervical pathology.
  • Critically appraise the NHS cervical screening programme with reference to the local context and service provision, and recognise the professional, legal and ethical issues in practice.
  • Systematically record, collate, analyse and interpret results and make meaningful comparisons with national standards.
  • Critically discuss relevant evidence based information and interpret the information sensitively and accurately to clients.

To complete the practice component of the module, you will undertake HPHS9004 Qualificatory Practice Unit for Cervical Screening and Practice.

On successful completion, you will have:

  • Successfully complete cervical screening practice in relevant settings, supervised and assessed by a qualified mentor.
  • Successfully identify your learning needs in practice and devised an action plan to meet them.
  • Reflect on progress in practice
  • Successfully achieve the competencies required by the NHSCSP.
