PURPOSEA one-year full-time course for NHS healthcare
professionals employed as IAPT High Intensity Workers leading to a
postgraduate diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. (A PG Cert
route is available for SLAM staff who must apply for long course
funding by the 1 March. Please contact the SLaM Training and
Education department for further funding information). The
Institute of Psychiatry is recognised as one of the leading centres
for research and teaching in CBT. This course will provide training
in the core theoretical and practical aspects of cognitive
behaviour therapy. The course will provide teaching and supervision
on fundamental skills and the specialist application of CBT to
depression and anxiety disorders. Course lecturers and workshop
leaders will include many of the internationally known figures
involved in developing and evaluating cutting edge cognitive
behavioural treatments.
DESCRIPTION
Compulsory modules will be taken in the following order:
- Fundamentals of CBT
- CBT for Anxiety Disorders
- CBT for Depression
- Accreditation Portfolio.
This course covers core clinical skills and academic teaching on
the models and techniques for treating depression and anxiety
disorders. The Fundamentals module gives a thorough grounding in
the basic skills of CBT with the opportunity to develop detailed
knowledge of essential components. The modules on anxiety and
depression consist of seminars by experts such as Professor David
Clark and Professor Anke Ehlers in the treatment of anxiety
disorders, and Dr Stirling Moorey on depression.
