You will enhance your critical understanding of these narratives and consider the principles and practice of screenwriting used in these contexts through an examination of characterisation, dialogue, set-up, text and sub-text, archetypes, plots and sub-plots, scene structure and the importance of re-writing.
You will learn through a mix of seminars, lectures, screenings, workshops, tutorials and presentations supported by personal study. You will be required to keep a writer‚s notebook and be actively involved in discussions on your own work and that of other students. Assessment will be based on a 1000 ‚ 1500 word treatment for a feature film screenplay, 15 minutes of scenes from the screenplay and a critical commentary on these pieces of work.
