Units covered Mandatory units include:
- Maintain and develop personal performance
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
- Deliver basic treatments to animals
- Select and prepare accommodation for animals
- Maintain animal accommodation
- Control and restrain animals
- Moving animals between locations
- Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Plus either:
- Maintain the cleanliness and bio security for animals
Or:
- Prepare feed for animals
- Provide feed and water to animals
A variety of optional units are available depending on your job role and Level 2 Diploma.
Entry requirements Employed in a related job role for at least 30 hours/week Who is it for? Suitable for these types of job role:
- Kennel worker: racing, boarding, breeding (involved in feeding and exercising)
- Pet shop assistant/retail assistant
- Kennel/Cattery (Boarding, charity)
- Animal technician
- Duration 18 -24 months Start date Available throughout the year

Training delivery will be carried out at your place of work

CostAged 16-18
Fully funded.
16–19 year olds are fully funded at charitable organisations on a voluntary basis working at least 30 hours/week.
Aged 19-23
Fully funded for employers with less than 1000 employees. For employers with 1000+ employees, please contact us for further details.
Aged 24 and over
Total People require employers to make a contribution towards the cost for all learners aged 24 years and over, embarking on an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship programme.
