Description

This course is for school leavers and those wishing to pursue a career within the field of production/mechanical engineering/welding.

The course is a combination of Performing Engineering Operations Level 1 and the BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Engineering and carries a number of mandatory and specialist units. This course gives you the opportunity to gain skills in the mechanical, welding and electrical workshops as well as generic skills of health and safety, communications applying for jobs, preparation for interviews and actual interview skills.

Performing Engineering Operations Level 1 and BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Engineering.

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

3 GCSE's grade E or above or entry qualifications at entry level 3. You will be required to successfully pass an interview showing enthusiasm and commitment towards this course. Individual cases outside of this criteria will be considered on their own merits

Assessment:

There is a continual assessment through a combination of practical, theory and portfolio work.

Progression from this course:

Students can progress to an apprenticeship in engineering, a level 2 engineering course or go directly into employment.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. You will need to buy safety boots, overalls and glasses costing approximately £50. You may also need to buy a course book and drawing instruments costing approximately £50.

Additional Information:

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
