Are you interested in working with animals and care about the
environment?
Do you need some support to achieve your career aims?
This one year course will give you the opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills by working with the wide range of animal species that we have at the college.
In addition to the animal care qualification, you will also aim to achieve a certificate in practical environmental and conservation skills. During the year you will develop the abilities, personal qualities and employability skills to help equip you for the next level course or future employment within the animal care industry.

Course Content
The qualification (Level 1 Diploma in Land-based Studies) covers:
- Exercising animals
- Handling and restraint of animals
- Health of animals
- Movement and accommodation of animals
- Feeding and watering
- Safe and effective working
- Performance in the land-based industry
You will also work towards :
- Certificate in practical, environmental and conservation skills
- Entry 3 Award in work skills
- Functional skills (Maths and English)
Three days a week at college which involves a mix of practical
instruction, demonstrations and visits.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays (group A) and Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday (group B). NB. Groups are decided by the course
manager
Entry Requirements
Entry level qualification, and/or enthusiasm to work with animals. GCSE grades F to G or Entry 3 functional skills
Progression/Employment
Level 2 Extended Certificate or Diploma in Animal Management.
Level 2 Apprenticeship.
Employment as an animal care assistant, kennel or cattery worker or pet shop assistant..
