Description

This is a very practical course with learners making and decorating a range of cakes during the sessions at the college. You will learn a wide range of skills including:
- Preparing and applying marzipan to a cake
- Covering and preparing a cake board with Sugarpaste
- Design a cake for a specific celebration
- Basic piping skills
- How to make and decorate plaques
- How to make toppers.

End Qualification:

There is no specific qualification but a college certificate is available if requested by the tutor.

Assessment:

Learners will be assessed throughout the course. Progress will be monitored against targets set by the tutor and learner at the commencement of the course. These targets will include a combination of learning outcomes specified by the tutor and the learners own personal aims and objectives. Learner progress towards all of these targets will be reviewed and recorded in an Individual Learning plan, during and at the end of the course.

Progression from this course:

There will be opportunity to progress onto other similar or associated courses on successful completion. The possibilities will be discussed by the tutor at an appropriate stage. Please be sure to ask your tutor.

It may be possible to progress onto an accredited course either with the College or other local provider. Advice on possible progression into accredited provision at the College of West Anglia is outlined in your learner guide.

You will need to bring along the following materials at some stage while attending the course:

Apron, cakes, marzipan, boxes, royal icing sugar, apricot jam, rolling pin, pallet knife, dish cloth, tea towel and washing up liquid.

The tutor will advise you of when these materials are required.
