This course is for anyone employed in the plumbing and heating industry who already holds a level 2 NVQ/diploma or equivalent.

In the two years of your Level 3 apprenticeship you will cover Health and Safety, Risk Assessments, Program Planning, Hot Water Heating Calculations, Hot Water Heating, Boosted Cold Water Systems, Gas and Maintenance of Components and Electrical studies.

There are currently two pathways offered for the Advanced Level Apprenticeship – Gas-Fired Water and Central Heating Appliances or Environmental (Renewable Energy). End Qualification:

- Level 3 NVQ/diploma in plumbing and heating
- Gas qualifications (core training, boilers, analysing, water regulations and unvented hot water systems)
- Function skills in English at Maths Level 2 and ICT Level 1 (if not already achieved)

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

You will be assessed for your potential to achieve the apprenticeship. The assessment will depend upon the range and level of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.

The Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in Plumbing or equivalent is a prerequisite for the course.

It is recommended that you have gained a minimum of 4 GCSE grades C and above (or equivalent). You may also need to undergo an initial assessment of your English and Maths skills, in which you are required to be working at/towards Level 2, if not already achieved.

An interview is required, where you will be assessed for your potential to achieve the apprenticeship. The assessment will depend upon the level and range of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.

At the start of your apprenticeship programme you will need to be employed by a suitable and appropriate employer for at least 16 hours a week. You will also need to have been a resident in the EU for at least 3 years.

Commitment and motivation are necessary to complete the course.

Assessment:

Assessments take place in the workplace and at college and include portfolio building, online testing and exams.

Progression from this course:

Progression routes can include Intermediate Apprenticeships in Customer Service, Business Administration or specialist Health and Safety courses.

Course Costs:

There are currently no fees payable by young people on Apprenticeship programmes. Fees may be payable by the employer where the candidate is 19 or older. Details available on request.

The apprentice is expected to purchase the Level 3 NVQ/SVQ Plumbing (2nd Edition) textbook by Michael B. JTL, costing approximately £25.
