Description
This course encourages you to develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes. In year one you will study central ideas of citizenship and democracy, the systems of government in the UK and key issues affecting its development. In year two you will study the political system of the USA.
Students will follow a programme which combines whole class teaching with small group work, discussion and debates, videos and case study work.

End Qualification:
Year 1: AS Level Government and Politics
Year 2: A2 Level Government and Politics
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English. You do not need to have studied the subject at GCSE but a lively and enquiring mind and an interest in current affairs helps.
Assessment:
Assessment is by examinations - 2 x 80 minute exams in June (year 1), 2 x 90 minute exams in June (year 2).
Progression from this course:
Government and politics combines well with a range of social science and humanities subjects to head to University courses in areas such as business, economics, law, media, philosophy and politics. It is also useful for careers in journalism, local and central government and public affairs.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials/resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. Recommended purchase of two quality textbooks (one for AS, one for A2). Approx £25 each. A reading list will be provided upon commencement of the programme.
