Course Content: The course is designed for learners who wish to
gain a hands-on appreciation of core craft and associated fields of
study surrounding sustainable building, social issues and
entrepreneurial skills. You will acquire the introductory knowledge
and skills relevant to the construction industry in the above
disciplines whilst working in a supportive environment.
The course offers students an opportunity to develop hands on
practical skills in a real working environment with own autonomy,
covering all aspects of bricklaying, scaffolding, setting out and
related areas. The course consists of units that include:
• An introduction to the industry
• Estimating
• Methods of working
• Building design
• Construction
Key-skills are also included in communications, information
technology and mathematics.
In addition to the core elements a programme of tutorials and
enrichment activities and topics are provided.
Upon completion of the course you will receive the relevant Diploma
Level 2. Success in Key Skills will also be certificated. Entry
Qualification: Foundation Construction Award at Level 1 or Diploma
in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent. (Experienced workers will
be considered subject to skills match profile.) Special Features:
The programme features realistic working environments with all the
necessary Health and Safety rules and regulations found on
construction sites or joinery workshops.
Students studying the bench joinery course are instructed in the
use of specialised joinery machinery and in the manufacture of
joinery product such as stairs, window frames and casements.
Progression: Students can progress onto level 3 Diploma programme
and have the opportunity to apply for carpentry and joinery
apprentice programmes.
