Who is the course for?
This course is a two year vocational course that can be taken as a Subsidiary Diploma, equal to one A level, or a Diploma equal to two. It is a practical skills based course which develops your own fitness and performance alongside the study of sport in various contexts. Practical sports activity; as well as classroom work. Students must be able to develop their research skills and complete coursework by the deadlines given. Students are expected to plan, deliver/lead and evaluate coaching/fitness sessions.

This course is based on 100% coursework. Students will complete a range of assignments in each unit that ensure differentiated opportunity for success.
Resources
Sports Students at St Brendan's have access to an excellent range of facilities which are used to support your learning. These include: A multi purpose sports hall and outdoor facilities; fitness suite; teaching rooms and IT facilities. In addition to this students can expect to attend a range of educational trips/visits in order to consolidate their learning.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry criteria for this course are five GCSEs at grade C or above or the equivalent from four subject areas including GCSE English. Alternatively students who gain a minimum of a MERIT grade in their Level 2 Diploma will be eligible for application (providing GCSE Maths and English are achieved/attempted).
What can I do next?
The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma / Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) is a nationally recognised A level standard course. Employment in the Leisure and Recreation industry could include a wide variety of careers such as leisure centre assistant, Sports Development Officer, Community Coach, supervisor/trainee manager, sports organiser or employment in other fields of sport and leisure: - Teaching, coaching children’s play, tourist attractions, entertainment etc. Through taking advantage of the additional qualifications on offer you will get lots of opportunity to work on a part-time basis honing your coaching skills. There are also employer links with organisations such as Camp America, local sports teams and county council sports development departments. Alternatively, many St Brendan’s students have used the course to progress on to Higher Education where there are many foundation and full degrees in a range of sporting disciplines. Other students have chosen to access jobs within general business and commerce.
