Each unit takes about 10 weeks to complete and includes: teaching, student research and presentations, coursework writing and practical skills.
Well qualified and experienced teachers support and guide the progress of coursework and co-ordinate links from professionals and care settings.
Assessment
Students will have one written examined unit in the AS year (Unit 1) and the A2 year (Unit 7). This is in the form of a question and answer booklet. Each exam will last one and a half hours. All other units will be assessed and graded internally through coursework. When all units are complete, an aggregated point score is achieved. An AS award can also be given at the end of the first year of study.
Progression
The GCE in Health and Social Care qualifies for UCAS points, enabling students to study for a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects, such as education, social work and nursing. Students could also go on to relevant employment within health and social care services.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above or the equivalent from four subject areas including GCSE English. Also progression from the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care is also appropriate for merit students and above.
Charges
Students are expected to purchase USB sticks, available from the College Stationery shop. They should have class materials for each lesson and be able to meet their printing and photocopying costs as needed.
There may also be transport costs involved in establishing care setting links – important for research or placement.
