Who is this course for?

This is an ideal course for you if you want to gain employment in veterinary nursing. This will provide you with a practical and theoretical introduction to veterinary nursing allowing you to gain employment as a veterinary care assistant.

What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of some classroom sessions and some practical work at our extensive animal unit. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of some classroom sessions and some practical work at our extensive animal unit. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. Subjects covered include basic veterinary terminology, introduction to anaesthesia, surgical equipment and radiography, health and safety, animal handling and restraint. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, and English and Maths. We also offer English and Maths GCSE resits.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, OR
  • Level 1 qualification in a related subject
  • Adequate standard of English and Maths
  • Mature learners with other qualifications and/or experience are also welcomed
  • You should have a strong interest in working with animals and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.

One year - full-time

What could I do after completing the course?

Further Education:
  • Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Apprenticeship)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management.
Employment:
  • Veterinary practice
  • Animal care sector.

Learners may be required to purchase their own personal equipment during the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
