Who is this course for?

This is a good course for you if you enjoy learning through practical work and if you have a passion for the outdoors and want to work as a stockman, farm worker, or herdsman.

What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of classroom sessions and lots of practical farm work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. Your tutor will encourage you to attend a voluntary agricultural placement 1 day each week.   • Develop performance in land-based industries
  • Assist with maintaining the health and well-being of animals
  • Assist with care of animals
  • Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals
  • Introduction to crop systems
  • Use, transport and maintain tools and equipment
In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, English and Maths.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 3 GCSEs Grade E or above
  • You should have a strong interest in working in the agricultural sector and demonstrate a commitment to succeed

Are there any additional costs?

Learners will be required to purchase items of personal protective equipment (steel toe capped boots, overalls and wet weather gear) for use on the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional cost
