Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in pursuing a career in the Hair and Beauty Industry.

What will I do on the course?

During this course you will learn how to demonstrate your skills on other learners, models and clients. You will learn about beauty services as well as health and safety, promotion of products or services and personal development to aid effectiveness at work. You will gain skills on how to improve and maintain facial skin conditions using a variety of treatments. You will learn both the knowledge and understanding and the practical skills for the following units:

• Health and Safety in the salon
• Client care and communication in beauty related industries
• Client consultation for hair services

Hair

• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
• Cut women's hair
• Colour and lighten hair
• The Art of Dressing hair

Beauty

• Provide facial skin care
• Remove hair using waxing techniques
• Provide manicure treatments
• Provide pedicure treatments
• Provide eyelash and brow treatments

What qualifications do I need?

• 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, OR
• Level 1 Hair and Beauty qualification
• You should have a strong interest in working in the beauty industry and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.

• In a Beauty salon/Hairdressing salon
• Self-employed/mobile

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by:

• Practical assessments observed in the salon
• Assignments or online tests (GOLA)
• E-learning project work
• Research/worksheets/written questions
• Oral questioning

What equipment will I need?

Learners will be required to purchase a salon uniform and hair and beauty equipment kit in order for them to successfully participate and complete the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
