This is a structured course which breaks down barriers between mediums. A relaxing course which can be extended into a pleasurable hobby and can be tailored to suit your individual needs.
You will learn about drawing, design skills and water-based mediums. The course will give the confidence to creatively explore a variety of mediums. You will develop drawing and observational skills through project based work. Contextual information on artists will support the learning of technical skills and processes. It will give you a good grounding of all technical skills in drawing combined with water based and textural materials.
Other technical areas covered will include mark-making, texture, tone, application of washes, proportion, composition, aerial/linear perspective, colour mixing (application and development), including exploring water based mediums. This will include pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolour pencils, pen, ink and wash technique, watercolours, acrylics, gouache and coloured inks. Students learn about individual mediums as well as combining mediums together in a mixed media approach.
Themes explored and developed will be taken from the external and indoor environment: observed studies of objects from natural to manmade forms, still life, flowers, plant forms, and their textural surface, landscape and seascapes, including the human figure, buildings and interior settings. Students can develop their technical skills and ideas through a variety of source material and group project work.
Instruction will be by way of demonstration, contextual information on artists, project work and 'one-to-one'.
Beginners:
Each term you will be introduced to a medium, for example, Medium One: Introduction to Watercolours. Medium Two: Drawing skills and drawing mediums. Medium Three: Introduction to acrylics. Mediums may not necessarily be in this order and can be discussed with the student, you may wish to select mediums of interest to you or to limit them to reduce costs.
Intermediates:
Intermediates will build upon and develop their drawings and observational skills, including developing technical skills in drawing and water-based mediums. You will be encouraged to develop your ideas through project based work, either realistic or abstracted.
The course will give confidence to develop your creative skills.
