This course starts with the basics of counselling and focuses on the person-centred approach. Students will develop active listening skills and learn about the core conditions of counselling from this approach. Counselling for Beginners 1 will provide a solid base upon which students can progress onto Counselling for Beginners 2 after Christmas and learn about creative ways of working with clients. End Qualification:

There is no specific qualification but a college certificate is available if requested by the tutor.

Entry Requirements:

No interview required

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

An interest in counselling and a wish to gain insight into yourself is all that is required.

Assessment:

Learners will be assessed throughout the course. Progress will be monitored against targets set by the tutor and learner at the commencement of the course. These targets will include a combination of learning outcomes specified by the tutor and the learners own personal aims and objectives. Learner progress towards all of these targets will be reviewed and recorded in an Individual Learning plan, during and at the end of the course.

Progression from this course:

There will be opportunity to progress onto other similar or associated courses on successful completion. The possibilities will be discussed by the tutor at an appropriate stage. Please be sure to ask your tutor.

It may be possible to progress onto an accredited course either with the College or other local provider. Advice on possible progression into accredited provision at the College of West Anglia is outlined in your learner guide.
