Progression awards are for anyone wanting to make a first step into gaining a ‘bite-sized’ qualification before starting a full Functional Skills award, or who want to start learning whilst waiting for the next Functional Skills course to start. You will complete units in areas that you need to focus on most, so that you are ready to ‘hit the ground running’ when you start with Functional Skills. Each unit will take around 10 weeks to complete, and you can join courses at any time

We will make every effort to start, and complete, your
course. However, there are a range of circumstances which may
prevent us from being able to deliver the advertised courses.
In the case of low class numbers, staff sickness, industrial
action, severe weather conditions, or any circumstance which may
affect the Health & Safety of staff or learners, we may decide
to cancel a session or a whole course.
In these cases, we will refund learners for any complete missed
sessions, or offer an extra session to complete a course.
Concessions may be available but evidence of
entitlement to the benefits listed will be needed before
concessions are applied.
Qualification Courses – FREE if:
In receipt of Job Seekers’ Allowance or ESA
Aged 16-18 on 31/08/2012
Unemployed and in receipt of Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, or dependant of Working Tax Credits claimant (NOT Child Tax Credit) – (declaration form required)
The course is Skills for Life English or Maths, inc GCSE
These courses will have a QL code
Other Concessions
Community Learning Courses – 50% Discount
if:
In receipt of Job Seekers’ Allowance or ESA
In receipt of Pensions Guarantee Credit
In receipt of Income Support, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit
In receipt of Working Tax Credit (NOT Child Tax Credit)
These courses will be coded as NP -check on the course details
Workplace Learning
Rutland Adult Learning Service offer a wide range of workplace learning qualifications covering the following areas:
- Early Years and Childcare
- Support Teaching and Learning in Schools
- Business Administration
- Customer Service
- Health and Social Care
- Information Technology.
We offer all of the above as apprenticeships in partnership with
local employers or you can choose to work towards a certificate or
diploma in your area of interest.
