Children’s Care, Learning and Development BTEC Diploma Level 2 Course Details Students will develop the knowledge and understanding required at an operational level in the child care sector. Students will develop the practical skills required at operational level. Provide students with potential progression to a higher- level qualification eg BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. The BTEC Level 2 Diploma consists of five core units of study plus one specialist unit. Core units of study: Understanding Children’s Development. Keeping Children Safe. Communication with Children and Adults. Preparing and Maintaining Environments for Child Care. Professional Development Roles and Responsibilities in Child Care. PLUS 1 Specialist Unit(Children’s Play and Learning). PLUS in addition to the above, functional skills in Maths and English will also be delivered. A Course For Students aiming for careers in child care eg Nursery Nursing and other child care related careers. Entry Requirements All applicants must display a genuine interest in working with children and have 4 GCSEs at grade D-E or above or relevant Level 1 qualification. Assessment The course is designed to integrate all the areas of study, emphasising the importance of linked theoretical knowledge to practical settings. Students are continuously assessed using a variety of methods. The functional skills offered on this programme are externally assessed. Learning Outcome Successful achievement of 6 units of study will provide the student with the qualification of BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, at assistant practitioner level.
