Students will need to arrange for a work place mentor who will contribute to some of the assessment of the course. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) APL may be available. Evidence derived from previous qualifications (e.g. PTLLS/CTLLS, City & Guilds 7307, 7303 and 7304 or RSA Teacher's Certificate) or work experiencemay be accepted as evidence of prior learning: the practical effect of this may be to allow applicants APL from some module outcomes in year one of the course. There are two routes available for those wishing to train to become teachers in the post compulsory education and training sector; Graduates normally work towards a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Those with other qualifications work towards a Certificate in Education (Cert Ed). A Course for It is intended for in-service teachers, tutors and trainers working in the Learning and Skills (i.e. post school) sector. It does not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Once students have gained the qualification they can apply for Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) for more teaching in appropriate contexts. Teaching & Learning The course aims to model a range of teaching and learning methods, including lectures, seminars, individual and small group work, and independent research, and IT based learning.
