Training in Health and Safety is a requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Managers and advisors who are appointed to assist management must be “suitably and sufficiently trained” to carry out their role.

The course provides valuable underpinning core knowledge for NVQ Level 3 and is seen by many employers as an essential and important base level qualification in Health and Safety.

Training method:

Workshop and assessment.

The assessment consists of 2 x two-hour exam papers; one exam taken on Friday of each week of the course and a Safety Inspection Report, which must be completed within seven days of the last day of the course and is undertaken at the candidate’s workplace.

Delegates will be required to undertake a certain amount of directed reading and exercises during the evenings. This private study could be pre-course, during the course, or in the week between the course weeks.

Course outcome/qualification:

NEBOSH National General Certificate.

Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:

It is recommended that candidates new to health and safety, especially the law aspects, undertake the one day Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace course or the IOSH 4 day Managing Safely course, prior to sitting the NEBOSH Certificate.
