The AAT qualification is recognised and respected by employers providing students with excellent and secure career prospects for both employment and self employment.

You do not require any previous qualifications or work experience to begin the AAT course and on completion you will be equipped to work in any area of finance and enjoy a varied and challenging role. You will finally be one of the lucky ones that can honestly say “I look forward to going to work on Monday morning!”

If you have work experience or qualifications within manual bookkeeping there may an option to claim exemption from the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and start at AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

The AAT Accounting Qualification QCF consists of three levels:

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting - Home study / Distance learning

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting covers a range of basic accounting from costing and double-entry bookkeeping to computerised accounting. It’s Ideal if you’re new to working in finance or you’re looking to expand and develop your knowledge and skills.

Students learn processes relevant to finance administrators, including double entry bookkeeping; accounting systems; purchase, sales and general ledgers.

Processing bookkeeping transactionsComputer based test

  • Understand the principles of processing financial transactions.
  • Understand the double entry bookkeeping system.
  • Understand discounts.
  • Prepare and process financial documentation for customers.
  • Process supplier invoices and credit notes and calculate payments.
  • Maintain the cash-book.
  • Maintain petty cash records.
  • Process ledger transactions and extract a trial balance.

Control accounts, journals and the banking systemComputer based test

  • Understand the purpose and use of control accounts and journals.
  • Maintain and use control accounts.
  • Maintain and use the journal.
  • Reconcile a bank statement with the cash book.
  • Understand the banking process.
  • Understand retention and storage requirements relating to banking documents.

Basic costingComputer based test

  • Understand the cost recording system within an organisation.
  • Be able to use the cost recording system to record or extract data.
  • Be able to use spreadsheets to provide information on actual and budgeted income and expenditure.

    • Assessment and Examinations
      The course is assessed mainly by means of a series of Computer Based Assessments. These can be completed at any time during the year and there are AAT approved assessment centres available throughout the UK.

      How to book assessments:

      • Complete the practice exam to a good standard
      • Make sure you feel confident and prepared to sit the exam
      • Log into your MyAAT account (you will be given details of how to do this once you register with the AAT)
      • Click in the search facility ‘Find an assessment centre in the UK’
      • Simply contact the nearest assessment centre and book your exam date and time

        The AAT course fee and P&P can be paid by four equal monthly instalments at no extra charge and the first instalment will get you started immediately (UK students only).

        Additional fees to remember

        Please note that in order to achieve the AAT qualification you will need to join the AAT as a student member. The following items are not included in your course fees:

        Reference Books
        For extra reading, AAT students are advised to purchase Frank Wood’s ‘Business Accounting’ Volume 1 (£37.99) and Volume 2 (£38.99).  Both books can be purchased from Premier Training by telephoning the office on 01469 515444. Students should consult with Premier Training to ensure that they have the correct edition!

         

      In the unlikely event you fail your exam you will be able to try again on payment of another exam fee with the centre. Premier Training will continue to support you at no further cost for the duration of the course. On completion of each level you will be presented with a certificate from the AAT .
