The Programme
This programme is designed to give young people an introduction
to working in the different health and social care settings;
including children, adults and the elderly. It covers the theory
which is needed to understand how to meet the needs of various
different service users. This programme consists of a collection of
relevant qualifications, including BTEC Level 2 Health and Social
Care. As this programme is designed to give you an introduction to
working in different health and social care settings the topics
covered are designed to help you understand how to meet the needs
of different service users.
Topics include:
Communication - where you will learn how we communicate effectively
with service users
Individual Needs - this is how we decide on the care needed by
individual service users
Human Lifespan Development - where you will learn about how we
develop from the time of conception through to death
Safe Working Environments - looking at hazards in the workplace and
how to deal with them safely
Diversity - where you will learn about the diverse society we live
in today
The Programme Content
This is a full time Level 2 programme aimed at helping students gain knowledge and skills in dealing with service users and understanding how to meet their needs.
Entry Requirements
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade E or above, including English Language. Alternatively successful completion of the Level 1 Health and Social Care course and all of its components. At your interview you will need to show that you have a real interest in working in the health and social care sectors. You will need to have a satisfactory enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. If you have any issues on your CRB you will need to discuss this with us as some work placement settings will not allow you to attend without a clear CRB.
Costs
This course is free to learners aged 16 to 19 years. You will have to pay for an enhanced CRB check, please see CRB Checks information below. Costs of trips and visits that are part of your course are additional.

Progression
On successful completion of this course you have several options open to you including applying for a Level 2 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship, applying for a Level 2 course, Level 3 Health and Social Care or another Level 3 vocational course within the college.

DBS Checks
As this course requires you to undertake work placements with children and/or vulnerable adults, a DBS check (formerly CRB check) is required. This will be carried out by Petroc prior to you starting the course in September and costs £53. Please click on the following link for
