Course Content
The level 2 qualifications are ideal for those new to the industry who are looking to gain a basic insight into the role of a medical administrator. Learners gain experience in organising data, communicating with others and effective working, among other skills. For each qualification learners are required to take four mandatory units. Both of the diplomas contain a number of optional units, including work experience.

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
Course Aims
This course is designed for those who want to do administration work within NHS both in primary and secondary care. Training provides students with the skills required to deal with reception, filing, confidentiality, IT, appointment systems, repeat prescribing and many other tasks required in a busy medical practice or hospital administration post.
Special Features
Work Experience and visits to hospitals and health centres. Students participate in work experience, 1 day per week for 8 weeks, followed by a 2 week block placement. Placements in the past have included: Antrim hospital, Whiteabbey hospital, Causeway hospital, Braid Valley & Moyle hospital. Students have also received placements in GP surgeries.
Assessment Methods
Learners are assessed through a combination of written examinations and assignments. Examinations and assignments are spread throughout the year, giving the students a balanced workload. The work placement is assessed by way of work placement portfolio where information that has been gathered over the period of work placement is used to assemble a portfolio when students return to college.
