This course is for learners who are aspiring to progress into a career as a fitness instructor. As well as undertaking the main award, learners will enrich their
CV by undertaking functional skills (ICT) and additional awards
in:
- Introductory Fitness Instructor
- Instructing Exercise to Children

End Qualification:
NVQ Level 2 Instructing Exercise and Fitness
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
Students must have 2 A*-C grades or 4 D
grades at GCSE level (or equivalent) or must have successfully
completed a level 1 qualification and all associated awards and
have demonstrated the maturity to be able to work in the sport and
active leisure industry. Mature candidates will be considered on
individual merit.
Current students wishing to progress on to another sport programme
must demonstrate:
- Good behaviour supported by a reference from the current course
director
- Attendance to be at least 95%
- Achievement of all qualifications on the current course
There will be a confirmation day on the 29th August 2012 which
should be attended.
Assessment:
Assessment will be continuous across the programme. Practical assessments of skills will take place in both the work placement and at college. Candidates will be expected to put together a portfolio of evidence. The candidate does have to be in a work placement to achieve competence.
Progression from this course:
Candidates can choose to look directly at employment following this award or could move on to further vocational training at level 3 (including the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport if appropriate academic skills are demonstrated).

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. There is a start-up cost of approximately £70 for the course. This will cover a CRB check necessary to work in schools, induction activity and supporting course materials. A college sports kit is also required at approximately £50 covering practical shorts and t-shirt, polo shirt and warm-up top.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
