Course Content

This course is made up of eight units - six mandatory core units that everyone takes and two specialist units. The specialist units enable students to study a particular area in more depth. All students take six Core Units:

  • Contextual References in Art and Design
  • 2D Visual Communication
  • 3D Visual Communication
  • Using Ideas to Explore, Develop and Produce Art and Design
  • Building an Art and Design Portfolio
  • Working in the Art and Design Industry

Specialists Units:

  • Working with Graphic Design Brief
  • Working with Visual Arts Brief

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills…

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.

Course Aims

To introduce students to a broad range of diagnostic skills in the area of Art and Design. This is a nationally recognised vocational qualification which can be used to assist students in gaining employment or as an entry qualification for study on to an advanced programme.

Opportunities to visit museums, art galleries, practicing artists and designers studios, exhibitions and guest speakers.

Assessment Methods

All units are internally assessed and graded and the overall grade for the qualification is awarded at the end of the academic year. Eight units must be completed to gain a full award.
